Digital & Giclée Printing For Visual Artists

The Water Street Gallery is dedicated to serving the reproduction and printing needs of artists and art collectors. Our lab uses MacPro computers, Microtek scanners and Epson large format printers with the K3 Ultrachrome Archival ink systems.

Our preferred working method of printing is collaborative. Rather than being a drop-off service, where in a few days you hope your prints are to your specifications, our printers work with each artist as we proof and print. This service is only available for those having Fine Art Prints made.

For those artists with specific technical and aesthetic outcomes in mind, this method of working follows the model of the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, where the artist works alongside the printer during the entire process. There is no charge for this service even if only one print is being made.

For artists producing portfolios and limited editions, and who require the use of one of our printers for periods longer than an hour or two, there is an additional fee of $300 per day including the services of a printer and all materials except paper.

Of course, you are always free to bring in your work for a later delivery.

Print Type Information

Digital Photo

This is a print made from a file given by the client that is ready to print. The file requires no color correction, Photoshop manipulation or proofing of any kind. All that is done is to match the image with the profiles for the chosen paper.

Fine Art Print

Sometimes referred to by the French word ‘giclée’ (meaning ‘sprayed’ or 'nozzled'), is a print made from either customer provided digital files, scans made by the Gallery or from original works of art photographed by the Gallery. Gallery created scans and original photography are separately priced. These prints are for exhibition, artist’s editions and portfolios.

The cost of the print includes file preparation, image manipulation in Photoshop, one proof print which the customer keeps, and gallery archival storage for future printing orders.

Canvas

A substrate chosen for use primarily by painters who wish to publish limited edition giclée prints of their original paintings. Of course, any artist may elect to print on canvas.
